CPI today decided to picket the city corporation office on September 11, demanding withdrawal of proposed 'abnormal' tax on the underground drainage scheme.
A decision to this effect was taken at the party's district committee meeting, held here under former councillor, R Kalyanasundaram, in which senior party members and office bearers participated.
The scheme is being implemented at an outlay of Rs 370 crore, while the corporation has proposed to levy Rs 150 crore as tax and Rs.450 crore as deposit amount, which will be a heavy burden on the common man, party sources said.
Demanding withdrawal of the proposed tax structure, party workers will stage picketing and lay siege to the corporation office on that day, they said.
