Press Trust of India Burdwan (WB)

Police said Radhanath Soren (65) was seriously injured during a clash which ensued following an altercation between the labourers and land owners at a meeting over fixation of daily wage rate and rice.

Seven persons were later arrested in connection with the labourer's death in the wake of police complaint lodged by Radhanath's son Sahadeb.

The meeting had been convened to fix rate as the labourers were demanding the daily wage be hiked from Rs 80 to Rs 120 as well as the 2 kg of rice quota.

The seven arrested were remanded to jail custody till July 31 by the CJM's court today.

The left front has called a 12-hr Jamalpur bandh after CPI(M) and party's Krishak Sabha wing leaders visited the area.
