Dani, Mudra emerge state champions

Third-seeded Mudra Dhainje got the better of Neha Pandit, the defending champion and fourth seed, in straight games in an all-Pune women's singles final to clinch the Safal Group-Maharashtra State senior badminton championships title here today.

Mudra, who was more aggressive as compared to her senior rival, took just 33 minutes to wrap up the match with a 21-16 21-16 win at the Chembur Gymkhana.

In men's singles final, top seed Harsheel Dani of Mumbai Suburbs scored a convincing 21-12 21-18 victory over second-seeded Siddharth Thakur of Nashik to become the new state senior champion.

Women's Singles semifinals: (3) Mudra Dhainje (PN) bt Vaishnavi Bhale (NGP) 17-21, 21-16, 21-14; (4) Neha Pandit (PN) bt Riya Pillai (MS) 21-9, 12-21, 21-11. Final: (3) Mudra Dhainje (PN) bt (4) Neha Pandit (PN) 21-16, 21-16.
 

Men's singles semifinals: (2) Siddharth Thakur (NSK) bt Deep Rambhia (MS) 21-13, 21-5; (1) Harsheel Dani (MS) bt Abhishek S Kulkarni 8 21-19, 21-11. Final: (1) Harsheel Dani (MS) bt (2) Siddharth Thakur (NSK) 21-12, 21-18.

Women's doubles final: (1) Manasi Gadgil/Vaishnvi Iyer bt Vallari Bukane/Aishwarya N 21-16, 21-15.

Mixed doubles final: (1) Manasi Gadgil/Nishad Dravid bt Vaishnavi Bhave/Govind Sahasrabuddhe 21-13, 21-16.
