Direct Benefit Transfer scheme for LPG (DBTL) will be launched in Chandigarh on October 1, a government spokesman said here today.
The Centre has decided to extend the scheme in a phased manner to 235 more districts in the country by January 1 next year, he said.
DBTL has already been launched in 54 districts of the country covering 21.9 million consumers and with this roll out, almost 289 districts will come under it, he added.

As per the DBTL scheme, cash subsidy for LPG cylinders will be transferred directly to bank accounts of consumers. In fact, a subsidy of Rs 222 crore has already been transferred through 5.3 million transactions, he said.
In order to avail cash subsidy to bank accounts, a consumer has to link the Aadhaar card with his or her LPG consumer number and bank account. A grace period of three months from the date of its launch is being provided for this, he said.
During this period, consumers will get LPG cylinders at subsidised rates and after it, market rates will be applicable, he added.
