A deer was today mowed down allegedly by a government vehicle on Balotra Megha Highway in Barmer district of the state, police said.

Incidentally, Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje's carcade was passing through the adjoining area, though the district police has denied its involvement in the incident, which took place near Sindhari.

One deer was killed by a government vehicle of the Food Inspector of Barmer on the Balotra Megha Highway, which was going towards Gujarat, a senior police official told PTI over phone.

The mishap occurred between 4-4:30 pm, he said.

The carcass of the animal was sent for postmortem to a veterinary hospital, the official said, adding, the Forest Department was informed of the incident, to take further legal action.

Setting aside rumours that the wild animal was killed by of chief minister's carcade, Barmer SP, P Deshmukh said, "This has nothing to do with the CM carcade. It was neither her route to the scheduled meeting at a Jaitasar Dham, nor the mishap occurred due to a vehicle of the CM carcade".
