The German Embassy is gearing up to celebrate the German Unity Day on October 3 in a grand manner with an aim to give people here a taste of the 'Oktoberfest' organised annually in Munich on the occasion.
"This year we will celebrate the German Unity day in the form of an 'Oktoberfest'. We will keep the originality of the festival intact. Indians don't want to see a diluted version," said German Ambassador Michael Steiner in a media briefing here today.
'Oktoberfest' is a major carnival held in Munich every year which is attended by over 6 million people including Indians.
While briefing the media, Steiner took a round of the lush-green lawn inside the Embassy with the reporters where the celebration will take place on Thursday to mark the anniversary of the Germany's unification.
The lawn had a 10-metre high tree known as 'Guild Tree' showing different professions people engage in Bavaria and both the German and the Indian flag were displayed on it.
For the guests, an automated-machine serving drinks was arranged which, Steiner said, was produced in Germany and brought specially for the occasion.
The food which will be served to the guests is all Bavarian cuisine.
"There were certain cuisines which were a challenge for us to make in India given it's humid weather. But ultimately we could make all of it," he said.
"Around 1,500 guests are expected which include Ministers, students, bureaucrats and people from the art world too," said Steiner.
