Deshpande wins Amravati teachers constituency seat

Shrikant Deshpande of Shikshan Aghadi defeated his nearest rival Arun Shelke by 4942 votes in the election to the state legislative council.

Shelke is the president of Shri Shivaji Education Society.

"I express my gratitude to all my voters who reposed their faith in me," Deshpande said after his election was announced by the Divisional Commissioner D R Bansod.

While Deshpande polled 12109 votes, Shelke got 7167 votes.

"I wish to rid education field of corruption and middlemen," Deshpande said.

Sitting MLC Vasantrao Khotare of Vidarbha Madhyamik Shikshak Sangh finished a distant third. Out of 17 candidates in the fray, 15 candidates got eliminated.
