Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhakam (AMMK) leader T T V Dhinakaran today blamed the Tamil Nadu government for the violent incidents during the protest against IPL match in Chennai.
He alleged that Police had attacked and registered cases against those who were agitating in a "democratic manner" against IPL matches in Tamil Nadu.
Dhinakaran, however, said though his party welcomed the agitation for the welfare and benefit of the state, it, opposed people taking law into their hands, he told reporters here.
Pro-Tamil outfits and others had staged a protest against holding of the Indian Premier League match involving Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders, citing the ongoing agitation over Cauvery issue.
Police resorted to lathi-charge to quell the agitation, which was marked by hurling of slippers into the stadium and burning of yellow jerseys, the colour of the CSK.
Dhinakaran also said there was nothing wrong in the call by various political parties to stage a black flag protest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Chennai tomorrow.
He alleged that Modi was working against the welfare of the state.
