Maharashtra Legislative Council was briefly adjourned today amid din created by BJP members over an NCP MLC, booked in a cheating case involving a bank loan, attending the proceedings.

BJP members said the NCP MLC Amarsingh Pandit, who has been booked for alleged non-payment of loan taken from the bank by Beed police, is attending the proceedings of the Upper House even though he is an "absconder" in the case.

Replying to the charge, Pandit said he was never declared absconder in the case.

He alleged that one Rajabhau Munde, accused of duping the bank to crores, was staying in the house of a senior BJP leader in Beed.

He also demanded that Rajabhau's phone call records be checked.

"Rajabhau Munde was staying in the house of a senior BJP leader in Beed. I request Home Minister R R Patil to conduct an independent probe into the matter," Pandit said.

As NCP and BJP members continued trading charges over the issue, the deputy Chairman Vasant Davkhare adjourned the proceedings for 15 minutes.

Pandit, along with Congress leader Rajani Patil, her husband and former minister Ashok Patil, and 62 others had been booked in connection with the alleged non-payment of loans taken from the Beed District Central Co-operative Bank (BDCCB) in October 2013, under sections 406, 420 and 34 of IPC.
