DMK condoles Ahamed's demise

DMK working president M K Stalin today condoled the death of former Union minister and Indian Union Muslim League MP, E Ahamed.

Praising Ahmed for his life long work for secularism and unity of the nation, Stalin said "he worked all his life for the ideal of secularism and the nation's unity".

Stalin also leader of opposition in Assembly, he said Ahamed was a very close friend of his father and party President M Karunanidhi.

"As Industries Minister of Kerala, as an MP, and as a Union Minister, he did yeoman service to his state and the nation," Stalin said in a statement and conveyed his condolences to the cadres of IUML and the family members of Ahamed.
 

IUML national General Secretary K M Kadeer Mohideen said the Indian Muslims were deeply grieved and anguished by the passing away of Ahamed.

Praising the late leader as one who had dedicated his life for the ideals of IUML like "upholding social cohesion, guarding the unity and integrity of the country and protecting the unique culture of minorities," Mohideen said they had lost "a great leader who lived without budging an inch from such ideals and won the praise of all."

He conveyed his condolences to the family of Ahamed and asked his partymen to offer prayers.
