Opposition DMK today asked the Puducherry government to hike the procurement price of milk and ensure that the dairy farmers were relieved of their current difficulties to meet the expenditure in maintaining milch animals.

DMK Puducherry State unit convener M A S Subramanian flayed the government for procuring milk from other states by paying higher price while the local dairy farmers were paid less.

He said in a release today that while a litre of milk was purchased from other states at Rs 30 a litre, local milk producers were getting only Rs 19 per litre. The administration should hike the price paid to local dairy farmers by Rs 10 a litre.
