DMK today lambasted the Puducherry government for "neglecting" welfare of farmers and for failing to nurture institutions established to promote farming activities in the Union Territory.

DMK'S Puducherry convener M A S Subramanian claimed in a release here today that as there had been no proper steps to protect agricultural lands, a number of farmers facing difficulty in carrying on their activities had converted the fertile lands into residential plots.

Institutions like PASIC, Krishi Vigyan Kendra and Farmers Advisory centres have also not been adequately taken care of and they were let to suffer for want of allocation of funds, he charged.

Subramanian wanted the government to take the grievances of farmers into consideration and evolve effective action plan to save farm sector.
