A joint team of Haryana health officials and police today arrested a private doctor and a woman agent for allegedly conducting sex determination tests, police said today.

A decoy patient was sent to the woman agent, who is a resident of Bahadurgarh. She took her for ultrasound tests at a Gurgaon based private hospital, said Nodal Officer (PCPNDT) and Jhajjar Deputy Civil Surgeon, Dr Rakesh Kumar

The accused told the patient she was expecting a girl and gave her an MTP kit, he said, adding they charged her Rs 30000 for the tests.

"The team raided the hospital and caught them red-handed. Rs 25,000 was recovered from the doctor and Rs 5,000 from the agent," he said, adding numbers on the notes matched to those given by the decoy patient as fee.

A case has been registered under the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, 1994, Kumar said.
