A doctor was among six persons arrested by forest officials while a sub-inspector of police escaped today after they allegedly hunted a deer and shared its meat in a forest area in the district, police said.
A team of forest department officials led by Ranger Senthil Kumar, on patrol duty in Komalipatti, noticed a group of seven persons sharing deer meat sitting outside a car.
On seeing the officials, SI of Special Branch CID Shivakumar managed to escape while the others, including Doctor Arun Christopher and former vice-chairman of a panchayat Shanmugavel, were arrested, they said.
All the accused were friends and hailed from different places in southern districts of Tamil Nadu, police said adding further investigation was on.
