Stressing on clean governance, civil society groups of Rajasthan today requested newly elected Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje to desist from giving ministry portfolios to MLAs with questionable integrity.
National Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reform, organisations working for electoral and political reforms, have written to the Chief Minister in this regard.
"This is our appeal to the Chief Minister to provide clean politics and for that it is needed that MLAs, which have criminal antecedents should not be given place in committees of the House and ministries," Kamal Tak, representative of Rajasthan Election Watch, said.
On the basis of the affidavits submitted by the MLAs with nomination papers filed at the time of elections, Tak claimed that 36 out of total 199 newly elected MLAs had criminal cases against them, in addition to other 19 MLAs with serious criminal cases.
The groups have also requested the CM to institutionalise annual asset declaration of all MLAs as a rule in the Assembly to ensure transparency in the governance.
