A driver was stabbed to death in Leh district of Ladakh region in Jammu and Kashmir, prompting a man-hunt by the police which led to the arrest of the culprit within an hour, police said.

Dorjey Gyalson, a resident of Salapi Zanskar, was admitted in Leh district hospital this afternoon with a stab wound near his heart but he succumbed to the injury during treatment, a police spokesperson said.

On receiving information about the incident, police sent the body for post-mortem and constituted a four-member team under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police Leh, T Gyalpo to investigate the matter, he said.

The team then visited the crime scene and collected vital evidence which led to the arrest of the driver's friend, Lobzang Thardot, with which the blind murder case was solved within a hour, he said.

"Thardot who also happens to be a relative of the victim confessed to committing the murder," the spokesperson said.

However, the spokesperson did not divulge the motive behind the murder but said a case has been registered against the accused and further investigations are underway.
