'Efforts on for empowerment of marginalised sections in J-K'

Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Social Welfare Sajjad Gani Lone today said various proposals have been formulated for amelioration of underprivileged and downtrodden sections of the society.

Lone said education is paramount for development of any society and therefore several schemes are under implementation in the state to promote education among the students of weaker sections.

"Several proposals have been formulated to ensure social inclusion, empowerment of marginalised sections by stimulating the potential of these people," he said while replying to a question on demand for grants of the departments in the legislative assembly here.

Under these schemes, scholarships amounting to Rs 26 crore has been provided to 1.91 lakh students during current fiscal, Lone said.

He said Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) is being systematically implemented in the state through its 28926 anganwadi centres in the state.

The minister said 10 lakh beneficiaries, comprising children from six months to six years of age, pregnant and lactating mothers and adolescent girls are being provided supplementary nutrition.

Lone elaborated that during 2017-18, 7.62 lakh beneficiaries were covered under ICDS with funds amounting to Rs 213 crore.

"Under the schemes of the State Rehabilitation Council, 7243 beneficiaries were covered and an amount of Rs 4.80 crore was utilised during 2017-18," he said.

Later, the House passed the grants of Social Welfare, ARI and Trainings departments for the fiscal year 2018-19 amounting to Rs 1853.46 crore.
