Heard about an elephant lodging a police complaint? Seems strange but true if the incident here is taken into account.
Police personnel at the Mukoodal station, 25 km from here, were today taken aback when the female pachderym led by its mahout ambled towards them and handed over the complaint with its trunk.
The complaint sought action against a person for throwing stones at it, police said.
Many people had offered the elephant fruits and took "blessings" from it. However, it declined to bless one person who offered a banana despite being asked to do so by the mahout.
The person got angry and pelted stones at the elephant from a distance following which the mahout went to the local police station along with it and asked it to give the complaint which was written by him.
In its complaint, the elephant said "Vailla jeevanana ennai kallal adithu thuburuthiavar meethu nadavadikkai edungal" (I am an animal who cannot even speak. Kindly take action against the person who hurt me by pelting stones).
The mahout told the police that he could identify the person who pelted the stones but did not know his name.
