A leopard caught in a snare was rescued today by Forest officials in Goa's Velguem village.
According to a senior officer, the snare was apparently set up to catch wild boards who generally destroy crops in area.
"The villagers noticed that the leopard was caught up in a snare and informed Forest department about the incident at around 9 AM," a senior official said.
He said a team of Forest officials from Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary went to the spot.
However, as the team tried to tranquilise the feline, it tried to attack it.
An official of the rank of Range Forest Officer (RFO) sustained minor injuries during the incident.
The leopard was eventually tranquilised and rescued, the official said, adding that the big cat didn't sustain any injury.
