Production and distribution company, Eros International, received maiden ICCC-Chanchlani Global Indian Cinema Award for their outstanding contributions to Indian cinema.
Ken Naz, President & CEO of North American operations, received the award instituted by Indo-Canada Chambers of Commerce and Chanchlani Foundation at a winter gala dinner organized by the Indo-Canada Chambers of Commerce to commemorate 100 years of Indian cinema. The award carries USD 25,000 dollars and a citation.
Speaking on the occasion, Naz emphasized the vital role that entertainment industry played in bringing different cultures together.
The award would be given annually to an outstanding film personality for his or her contribution to Indian Cinema, Naval Bajaj, President of the ICCC announced at the gala function.
Among the dignatories included several prominent political leaders such as Brampton's Mayor Susan Fennell, and Consul General of India (Toronto) Akhilesh Mishra who was the guest of honour at the Gala. Mishra regaled the audience with his anecdotal speech, peppered with poetry.
Over 600 guests that comprised the who's who of the Indo-Canadian community and a number of dignitaries were treated to a veritable feast of Bollywood masala that included songs and dances, re-enactments of memorable scenes from iconic movies.
The entertainment also featured stand-up comedy interludes by Ali Hasan, the popular South Asian comedian.
