Fake currency worth over Rs 6 lakh seized; three held

Three persons, including a notorious criminal, were today arrested here for allegedly possessing fake currency notes with a face value of Rs 6.78 lakh, city police said.

The City Task Force (CTF), led by ACP I Chittibabu, also seized a country-made 9-mm pistol with two empty magazines from the gang.

The accused, Gurajarapu Nalamaharaju (45), a native of Rajanagaram, East Godavari district and accused in three murder cases, and two others were identified as Mavuri Chakradhar and Gedela Govindarao, both from Visakhapatnam, police said.

According to DCP (Crime), T Ravi Kumar Murthy, Nalamaharaju's close aide Nammi Srinu is absconding.

"Nalamaharaju and Srinu had procured the fake notes from New Farakka area of Murshidabad district of West Bengal. They had procured fake Indian currency notes (FICN) to the tune of Rs 5.93 lakh face value from one Ali, who is from West Bengal," the DCP said.
 

The FICN seized were in the denomination of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500, police said adding that further investigation into the case is on.
