Puducherry Traders Federation called upon the Chief Minister N Rangasamy to take immediate steps to create Welfare Board for the traders in consonance with his assurance at a state level conference here in February, this year.

The traders were really embarrassed over the announcement by the Chief Minister in the assembly last week that "the government would consider the plea for the setting up of the Board for traders", President of the Federation, M Sivasankar said in a release today.

He said the Chief Minister had given "a firm promise" at the traders conference that a Welfare Board would be set up soon. But the stand taken by the Chief Minister now that the plea of the traders for the Board would be considered was a disappointing stand causing embarrassment to them, he said.

He also wanted the government to ensure that culprits involved in the murder of a pawn broker in March this year on the premises of his shop in the vicinity of bus terminal in broad day light were arrested without any further delay.
