The cyber crime cell of Punjab Police today registered an FIR in connection with the assault of IAS officer K S Pannu at Uttarakhand recently.

On a complaint by Pannu, who is also the Director General of School Education (DGSE), an FIR has been registered in Punjab Cyber Crime Police Station at Mohali under IT Act and various other sections of the IPC, a government spokesman said here.

In his complaint, Pannu stated that under a deep-rooted conspiracy, some mischievous persons uploaded the video of his manhandling at Gobind Ghat on social networking sites and defamed him.

Further investigations are in progress.

Earlier, Pannu submitted a report to the state government, sources said, adding the state government will forward this report to Uttarakhand government and also wait for the report of the SIT formed by the police before taking further action.

Pannu was instrumental in unearthing a scam in the state education department which is headed by Sikander Singh Maluka as education minister. Maluka's daughter-in-law was also on deputation with the education department as additional director projects (Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan).

The Chief Minister has already appointed a retired judge of the high court Justice A N Jindal, as one man commission to enquire into the alleged scam of books in the education department.
