A major fire today broke out at the branch of a bank here, causing losses to the tune of lakhs of rupees, police said.
The fire broke out this morning at the State Bank of India (SBI) Cant branch, when it was still not opened for the day, they said, adding, the fire soon spread in the entire branch.
20-25 fire tenders were pressed into service, police said.

Important documents and cash were gutted in the fire, they said.
Police have not registered any case till now as the fire department suspects a short circuit might have played a trigger.
Exact amount of losses could not be ascertained yet, police said, adding, no business could be transacted at the branch today.
