A Fire Service Training Insitute catering to the needs of the southern districts would soon come up in the city, Tamilnadu Fire Service Director Ramesh Kudawala, said today.
The state government has allocated Rs 18 crore for modernising the Fire service department and more advanced equipments would soon be purchased, Kudawala, who was here in connection with the annual review meeting of the department told reporters.
Vacancies at various levels in the department would be filled in two or three months, he said, adding 350 fire officers would be given mobile phones with Common Users Group facility.
As many as 1,980 fire service personnel had been provided with protective covering dress.
