Five drown as car falls into river

Five persons, including an elderly couple, drowned today when the car in which they were travelling to Yanam in Puducherry, lost control and fell into the Gautami river near here, police said.

The incident took place in the early hours near Dariyalatippa at Yanam outskirts, they said.

The deceased were identified as Koppada Sathiraju (70), his wife Dhanalaxmi (64) Parvathi (40) Rishita (7) and Anshita (5).

Another person identified as Pavankumar has gone 'missing' and feared drowned as he has not been traced so far, police added.

The bodies were sent to Government General hospital, Yanam for postmortem.

Meanwhile, in another incident two boys drowned in
 

Siddipet district of Telangana.

Ch.Prashanth (12) and V Srikanth (9), both native of of Wardarajpally village had gone to a water tank to wash their sheep, a police official from Togutta police station said.

The duo drowned in the water tank. They were pulled out and rushed to a nearby hospital but declared brought dead, he said.

In a separate incident, a 24-year-old youth, who had come to celebrate Holi to his native Annanth Sagar village in Sangareddy district, is feared drowned in a water tank, police said.
