Five fishermen, who ventured into the sea from here, are stated to be missing, officials said.
The fishermen of Chinnagudi hamlet in Tarangambadi area of Nagapattinam district had put to sea yesterday.
The weather was rough in the area last night and the fishermen might have drifted in the sea, local fishermen said.
Nagapattinam Joint Director of Fisheries Subburaj said the fisheries department has launched a search operation through eight boats.
In addition, the help of the Coast Guard and Navy have been sought, he said, adding, steps were also being taken for an aerial search operation.
