BSP today charged Mulayam Singh Yadav with playing "cheap politics" over the VHP's yatra, and alleged that the SP chief was not averse to vitiate atmosphere of UP to fulfil his ambition of becoming prime minister.

"Just for his lure of becoming the prime minister, Yadav with the help of VHP, wanted riots in the state to fulfil his political ambitions," Leader of Opposition in Vidhan Sabha and BSP leader Swami Prasad Maurya said.

The BSP leader alleged that in a closed door meeting between the SP chief and VHP leaders they had worked out a strategy and it has been proved in the days thereafter.

While Yadav is out to portray himself as the saviour of Muslims, VHP wants to prove that it works for the cause of Hindus, he said.

Alleging that Yadav wanted to instigate riots before the Lok Sabha elections and the VHP programme was its rehearsal, Maurya said that the 'parikrama' was an outcome of cheap politics of these parties.

Maurya asked as to what was the need for taking out this yatra at this time when it was also against the Hindu belief.
