Former Goa CM, others to be quizzed by SIT in mining scam

Former Goa Chief Minister Digamber Kamat and several other government officials, including a suspended Director of Mines, will be questioned by the special investigation team (SIT) in connection with the multi-crore mining scam.

While the recording of statements will begin from tomorrow, Kamat would be questioned by sleuths on February 8, Deputy Inspector General of Police K K Vyas said.

Former Law Secretary V P Shetye, former director of mines J B Bhingui, suspended director of mines Arvind Lolienkar will also be questioned by the SIT, which is probing the Rs 35,000 crore illegal mining case.

The illegal mining in the state had been exposed by the Justice M B Shah Commission findings. Ther commission has estimated the mining scam at Rs 35,000 crore.
 

This is for the first time that Kamat would be questioned by police in connection with this case.
