The personal security officer (PSO) of a former Jammu and Kashmir minister has been arrested for allegedly shooting at a youth in an inebriated state, police said today.
According to police, assistant sub-inspector of police Balkar Singh was arrested last evening after he allegedly shot and seriously injured Sunil Kumar, a resident of Shahpur in Bishnah Tehsil.
Singh was posted as the PSO of former Jammu and Kashmir minister and a former MP from Doda-Udhampur parliamentary constituency Chowdhary Lal Singh.
"The ASI was consuming alcohol in his vehicle when he entered into an altercation with the youth, who was passing by and was known to him. He then shot two rounds from his service rifle. One in the air and the other one at the youth. The bullet hit the youth in his abdomen," the police officer said.
He said the youth has been shifted to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Jammu where his condition was stated to be critical. The PSO has been arrested and a case registered against him, the police officer said.
