Four unidentified robbers allegedly waylaid a steel rods-laden trailer in the district and fled with the consignment worth about Rs 26.03 lakhs kept in it, police said today.

While the transport vehicle was on its way from Khopoli to Wada in Thane yesterday, the four got into it near Panvel-Mumbra road and tied up its driver Bapu Gangaram Jadhav at knife-point, Shil Daighar's assistant police inspector S B Londhe said.

They drove the trailer to LP Bridge, Nerul in Navi Mumbai and after robbing the driver and dumping him there, sped away with the vehicle, he said quoting a complaint filed by Yadav.

Offences have been registered against the four persons under sections 392 (robbery), 363 (kidnapping) rw 34 (wrongful restraint) of the IPC, Londhe said, adding that search was on to nab them.
