Four members of robbers' gang held

Police today claimed to have busted a gang of robbers, allegedly involved in several thefts, with the arrest of four persons.

The police had been on a look out for Irshad, Arun, Bhura and Umar, all residents of Meerut district, for quite some time, a police officer said.

Acting on a tip off, the officers said they were arrested this morning by Modi Nagar police.

"Police got information that the four were coming towards petrol pump situated on Hapur Road. A trap was laid and the robbers were arrested, who later confessed to their involvement in a number of crimes," he said.
 

Three pistols, two motorbikes, 15 live cartridges were also recovered from their possession.

The accused, all aged between 27 and 32 years, came to Modi Nagar area to execute a robbery but their plan was foiled by the police.
