Four persons including arms smugglers arrested

Four persons, including an arms smuggler, were arrested and four illegal firearms and 21 live ammunition seized from from them in Ganjam district of Odisha today, police said.

Those arrested were identified as Chandramani Nayak of Cooperative Colony here, Kishor Chandra Nayak of Ankuli, Basudev Pandit of Kukudakhandi near here and Sivaji Mahakuda of Badapur Tata Colony, said SP (Berhampur) Sarthak Sarangi.

Chandramani, who worked as a security personnel for a builder in Bhubaneswar, was stated to be the king-pin in supply of firearms in the area, he said.

He was procuring firearms from Howrah in West Bengal and selling at Rs 25,000 to Rs 40,000 depending on the size and model of the weapon, police said adding the other three accused had confessed to purchasing of revolvers and pistols and ammunition from Chandramani.
 

"During investigation, we came to know that Chandramani was doing firearm smuggling for last 18 months. He had also supplied the illegal arms to different persons in the district," said the SP.
