Freedom fighter Wassan Singh dead

Noted Punjabi freedom fighter Wassan Singh has died and was cremated full state honours here today.

He breathed his last yesterday evening at the age of 95.

A contingent of police reversed their arms and fired shots into the air as a mark of respect to him.

Singh was a member of the Royal during the British Raj and fought in the second World War. He later joined the Indian National Army (INA) led by Bose.

He was imprisoned in the Islands for several years.

He is survived by his wife Gurbachan Kaur, two sons and three daughters.
