Railways have earned Rs 51,188.72 crore from freight traffic during April-October compared to Rs 47,045.09 crore during the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 8.81 per cent.
Railways carried 593.25 million tonnes (MT) of freight during April-October against 565.27 MT carried during the same period last year, marking a growth of 4.95 per cent.
The national transporter earned Rs 7,730.94 crore from freight traffic in October of which Rs 3,174.53 crore came from transportation of 37.78 MT of coal, followed by Rs 783.13 crore from 10.14 MT of iron ore for exports, steel plants and for other domestic users.

It earned Rs 736.06 crore from transportation of 8.76 MT of cement, Rs 623.84 crore from 4.16 MT of foodgrains, Rs 469.85 crore from 3.43 MT of petroleum oil and lubricant (POL), Rs 491.23 crore from 3.17 MT of pig iron and finished steel from steel plants and other points.
Railways generated Rs 488.96 crore revenue from 4.48 MT of fertilisers, Rs 140.54 crore from 1.37 MT of raw material for steel plants except iron ore, Rs 357.51 crore from 3.49 MT by container service and Rs 465.29 crore from 5.47 MT of other goods.
