The 59th annual Fruit Show got underway at the Sim's Park in nearby Coonoor today.

One of the major attractions of the show is the depiction of a scene from the popular bull-taming sport "jallikkattu" made of oranges and grapes, the organisers said.

The 'vadivasal', the place from which the bulls are released, is made of orange rind and grapes, while the bull is made from oranges. The bull-tamer has been shaped out of oranges and grapes, all weighing about one tonne.

Eight districts are participating in the two-day show, inaugurated by Nilgiris district Collector P Shankar.

The event is organised by the Horticulture Department.
