Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat is the front-runner to become the president of the BJP's Rajasthan unit, replacing Ashok Parmani who resigned recently, party sources said.
Shekhawat is the minister of state for agriculture and farmers welfare and is a first-time MP, representing the Jodhpur Lok Sabha constituency.
"He is the likely choice of the leadership to head the state unit," a senior party leader said.
The 50-year-old Rajput leader is presently on an overseas trip.
The party is looking to revamp its organisation in the poll-bound state where it has suffered a number of electoral reverses, including defeats in bypolls to two Lok Sabha seats.
The BJP had yesterday appointed Jabalpur MP Rakesh Singh president of its Madhya Pradesh unit, replacing Nandkumar Singh Chauhan. Madhya Pradesh also goes to the polls along with Rajasthan later this year.
