Union minister Thaawarchand Gehlot has urged Human Resource Development minister Prakash Javdekar to include in the CBSE syllabus information about the five places announced as 'Panchteerth' in honour of Dalit icon B R Ambedkar.

Panchteerth include Amedbkar's birthplace in Mhow, the place in London where he stayed while studying in UK, 'Deeksha Bhoomi' in Nagpur where he embraced Buddhism, 'Mahaparinirvan Sthal' in Delhi where he died on December 6, 1956, and 'Chaitya Bhoomi' in Mumbai where he was cremated.

Seeking to appropriate the legacy of B R Ambedkar, the BJP-led NDA government has decided to develop these five places in his honour.

In his letter to Javdekar, Social Justice minister Gehlot wrote, "I request you to initiate necessary steps for incorporating the information on 'Panchteerth' in the CBSE syllabus so that students get to know the life and struggles of Bharat Ratna Dr B R Ambedkar.
