An 18-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped and murdered in this industrial town of Punjab, police said today.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Narinder Bhargva said the victim has been identified as a resident of new Janata Nagar and was a student of Class XII.
The victim's father told police that his daughter had gone to school on Wednesday but did not return home following which he filed a complaint the same day.

The girl's naked body, legs tied with a piece of cloth, was recovered from Sidhwan canal at Barewal road here yesterday, Bhargva said.
A post-mortem was conducted by a board of three doctors and her viscera was sent to the government laboratory for chemical test, he said.
He said the report did not rule out possibility of a gangrape. It also revealed that she was strangled to death after being attacked with sharp-edged weapons.
Her school bag and ID card were recovered near Jawaddi bridge on Sidhwan canal, he said adding the school uniform was stuffed in the bag.
Bhargva said efforts were being made to find out and nab the culprits. Footages of CCTV cameras installed in the school road and near canal was also being examined, he said.
Meanwhile, in another case a 13-year-old minor girl was raped by her neighbour at nearby village Jandali, police said.
A manhunt has been launched to nab the culprit, police said.
