A few goats died due to heat and suffocation while being transported to Uttar Pradesh sparking rumours about cattle smuggling in east Delhi's Mayur Vihar area.

Police said around seven-eight goats that were being transported in a truck to slaughter houses in Uttar Pradesh from Ghazipur died on the way, a senior police officer said.

There was a heavy jam on the route and the goats died due to suffocation and heat, he said.

Initially, people thought that cattle were being smuggled and gathered on the spot leading to a traffic jam around Mayur Vihar phase-II area, sources said.

However, traffic police and local police ensured that traffic was regulated and there was no panic created.
