Gold biscuits weighing 58.8 kg seized

Over 500 gold biscuits worth Rs 19 crore were seized from two persons in Murshidabad district when they were illegally transporting the Bangladeshi consignment to Kolkata, official sources said today.
Acting on a tip-off, DRI personnel last night stopped a car at Mehedipur, near here, in which 504 gold biscuits weighing 58.8 kg were being carried from North Dinajpur district bordering Bangladesh to Kolkata, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence sources said.
The gold biscuits were manufactured in Dubai, Switzerland and the US, they said.
Two occupants of the car - Dipak Sarkar and Jagadish Sharma - were arrested. A local court today remanded them in 14 days' judicial custody.
