Gold biscuits worth Rs 1.99 cr seized from Bangladesh border

The BSF today seized 60 gold biscuits worth Rs 1.99 crore from an abandoned plastic bag at Indo-Bangla border in Hakimpur in North 24 Parganas district.

The gold weighed over seven kg.

Acting on an information, BSF personnel waited near Sonai river and found that a man was crossing the river from the Bangladesh side with the help of a rope, carrying a plastic bag.

A BSF statement said the man fled after being challenged but left the plastic bag.

The bag was recovered and 60 gold biscuits were found inside it.

In 2017, BSF South Bengal Frontier has seized 27.738 kg of gold (including this seizure) valued at Rs 8,00,68,879 and apprehended 9 gold smugglers.
