With the state likely to receive rainfall due to a well marked low pressure over the Bay of Bengal which may take shape of a cyclonic storm, the Odisha government today cautioned farmers to keep their harvested paddy in protected and safe places to avoid damage.

In letters to all District Collectors, the Special Relief Commissioner has asked them to keep watch on the situation.

Earlier, the IMD had informed the state government about the well marked low pressure, which remained at a distance of about 1360 km from Gopalpur.

The system is likely to move west-northwestwards initially and then northwestwards, the IMD said.

The weather office also informed the state government that majority of models suggest intensification of the system into a deep depression during the next 24 hours and further intensification into a cyclonic storm in the subsequent 24 hours.

"Under its influence moderate rainfall is anticipated in the districts of south and coastal Odisha during December 10 to December 13," the IMD has cautioned.
