The government has received over 200 representations from public representatives and organisations since last year for changing names of some roads in Delhi and NCR.

The information was provided by Minister of State for Home Affairs, Hansraj Gangram Ahir, in response to a written question in Lok Sabha as he clarified that the Central Government is not directly involved in examination of cases of naming of the roads.

The State Naming Authority (SNA) Branch of Delhi Govt's Urban Development department, received four representations in 2015 to change name of some roads in Delhi and the same have been forwarded to concerned agencies for their comments.

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) which had renamed Aurangzeb road as APJ Abdul Kalam Road in February last year has received 21 representations from public representatives, individuals or organisations since last year.

Ahir noted that the requests have been placed before the Council as per provisions of NDMC Act, 1994.

Delhi government's Directorate of Local Bodies (DoLB) has received a total of 186 such cases in all three MCDs and further action is in progress, he said.
