A handpump in a government secondary school in the district was today allegedly poisoned by unidentified miscreants, police said.

A student of an upgraded government secondary school in Chakla village went to drink water from a handpump and found it to be contaminated, allegedly due to poisoning by some unidentified persons, Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajiv Ranjan said.

The student informed the school principal Nigar Ahmed, who rushed to the handpump, detected foul smell emanating from the water and promptly informed the Sadar police about the matter, the SP said.

There was no casualty or suffered illness to any student as none of them drank water from the handpump, after they came to know about the alleged poisoning, Ahmed said.

According to the SP, the Sadar police station's SHO and local education department officials visited the school to investigate the matter.

A sample of water drawn form the handpump has been sent to Patna for a laboratory test, the SP said, adding, further action will be taken on the basis of report if the water is found to be contaminated or poisoned.

The alleged poisoning of handpump has taken place days after the school was torched by unidentified miscreants following a clash between rival group of villagers, the SP said.

The two groups have lodged FIR against each other in connection with the clash three days ago, he said.
