Spiritual leader and founder of 'The Art of Living' Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has lauded the constitution of Anand Department (Happiness Department) by the Madhya Pradesh government.

"By constituting the Happiness Department, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has taken initiative to ensure a happy state of mind instead of finding joy through indulgence in worldly objects," Ravi Shankar told a gathering at village Bakaner in Dhar district today.

Sri Sri was participating in Jan-Samvad (Public Dialogue) organised during ongoing 'Namami Devi Narmade - Sewa Yatra.'

During his address, Chouhan said this Yatra was being organised to highlight the importance of river Narmada's conservation as it would save Malwa region from being converted into a desert.

"This awareness campaign is also being run to prevent the Malwa region from being converted into a desert. We will take Narmada water to the entire region," Chouhan added.

Earlier, Chouhan performed Ma Narmada's aarti at Semalda in Dhar district. Sri Sri was also present.

'Namami Devi Narmade - Sewa Yatra' started on December 11 last year from Amarkantak, the source of river Narmada.

It will cover 1,831 km on southern bank comprising 548 villages/towns and 1,513 km on northern bank comprising of 556 village/towns, thus covering 3,344 km in 144 days.

State government has been terming this 'Yatra' as world's biggest river conservation campaign.
