Deputy Excise and Taxation Commissioner, Sirsa, has been suspended for "dereliction of duty" during the Municipal Council elections last year, the Haryana government said today.
The action was taken on the recommendation of the State Election Commission. It also suggested initiation of disciplinary proceedings against the officer.
Dalip Singh, State Election Commissioner, Haryana said Inder Singh Godara was appointed as Observer (Expenditure) during the general elections of the Municipal Council, Sirsa, held on September 25 last year.

He (Godara) was assigned duties to monitor day-to-day accounts of expenditure maintained by the contesting candidates till the elections, Dalip said.
The Deputy Commissioner, Sirsa had informed the Commission that Godara allegedly wilfully absented himself from election duty on the day of polling without prior intimation to the District Administration, he added.
