In a step to promote digital transactions, the Haryana government today announced that all colleges and universities in the state will take the cashless route.

Making the announcement, state education minister Ram Bilas Sharma said the Higher Education Department had prepared an action plan under which teaching and non-teaching staff of colleges and universities would be brought under cashless payment system.

Students would also be encouraged to adopt different methods of cashless transactions for payment of fee, withdrawal of scholarship and other transactions, he said.

Besides, student volunteers would educate people about using digital payment systems during a special awareness campaign from December 12, 2016 to January 12, 2017.

This was a step towards fulfilling the government's efforts to make the state cashless, he said.

Sharma said assistance of bodies such as NSS and NCC would be sought for making people aware about digital payment systems.

It would be the responsibility of the heads of colleges and universities to make students aware about the systems and select some students to serve as volunteers, he said.
