The Gujarat High Court today issued a notice to the state government over a petition which seeks an inquiry into an alleged multi-crore rupee scam related to bauxite mining in the state.

The notice was issued by a division bench of Chief Justice Bhaskar Bhattacharya and Justice J B Pardiwala while posting the hearing for July 1.

Kutch-based former state government employee J H Ramani, in his petition, has alleged challans and drafts were used repeatedly at privately-operated mines, leading to evasion of payment of royalties of over Rs 1,500 crore to the state government.

The petitioner has relied on government records obtained through the Right to Information.

He claims the police and the Anti-Corruption Branch did not initiate any probe despite his complaint and a Special Investigation Team should be set up.
