The Allahabad High Court today asked the Centre and Uttar Pradesh government to respond to a Public Interest Litigation drawing attention towards the high incidence in the state of dumping of new-born babies at desolate places for want of acceptance from their parents and family members.

A division bench, comprising Justice Dilip Gupta and Justice V K Mishra, asked the union government and the state government to inform the court about steps being taken to stop the "inhuman acts" and ordered that the case be listed for further hearing in the month of July.

The order came on a PIL filed by a law student Arjun Singh who had cited numerous newspaper reports from various parts of the state regarding incidents of new-borns being thrown under bushes or at other secluded, dirty and unhygienic places.
